FireAlpaca, besides being an adorable name, is a lightweight drawing/sketch program that reminds me of open canvas but with a few more settings. It’s got some basic tools and settings, but it’s fun to doodle in it if you aren’t using photoshop.
It’s also free. :U Everyone likes free. And available for mac and PC.
I haven’t tried this out myself but looking at the comments it’s a good alternative to Sai if you use a Mac! I only ever talk about Sai because that’s what I use but this looks like it’s worth a shot if you’re looking for a lightweight program. And also, yeah, it’s free
I’ve just taken it for a spin. Obviously, coming straight out of photoshop will take some adjusting, there are some things I really like about FireAlpaca. Like Sai (which I haven’t used for 3-4 years since changing to a Mac, I confess), the “pen” lines are super smooth. There’s also a really beautifully intuitive opt+cmd+drag function to change the size of the brush. Really wish Photoshop had something like this, instead of having to use [ ], haha. However, the brush customization settings are really basic, and you can’t achieve a lot of different effects (yet? they’re still developing it); I was trying to figure out a good painting brush, and I couldn’t get it exactly how I wanted it. For cell shading and lines though, it’s a great program.
I do wish it had more shortcuts; for example shift+cmd+N for a new layer.
I work on a Mac, btw.
edit; WOW WOW JUST DISCOVERED THE SNAP TOOL WHICH MAKES VANISHING POINTS AND PERSPECTIVE GUIDES WOW WOW SO EASY WOW
